Council for the Order of Australia
Prime Minister and Cabinet

The Order of Australia is the pre-eminent means of recognising outstanding achievement and contribution by Australians. The Council makes recommendations for awards directly to the Governor-General for approval and announcement. Council consists of 8 community members (1 of whom is the Chair), State and Territory government members, and 3 ex officio members being the Cabinet Secretary, the Chief of the Defence Force and a Departmental official.
