Prime Minister and Cabinet
The Council, is an independent body which was established by Letters Patent, and considers nominations from the public for national recognition of acts of bravery where people selflessly put themselves in jeopardy to protect the lives or property of others. The Council makes recommendations for awards to the Governor-General. The Council has fourteen members, including representatives from each state and territory, two ex-officio members and four community members appointed on the advice of the Prime Minister, by the Governor-General.
