Gulf War Serum Management Committee

Veterans' Affairs (part of the Defence Portfolio)
A Serum Management Committee (SMC) was established by an administrative decision of the Repatriation Commission in 2005 to oversee the storage, access, and use of serum samples and study data collected as part of the Australian Gulf War Veterans’ Health Study. The committee comprises representatives from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Department of Defence, and ex service organisations representing the interests of the study’s participants and reports annually to the Commissions. The study examined the health outcomes of Australian Defence Force personnel who served in the 1990-91 Gulf War conflict, including outcomes associated with service related exposures.
