AFFTAC is a subcommittee of the Plant Health Committee (PHC). The subcommittee have oversight of national functions, enablers and drivers for the control of domestic fruit fly of biosecurity concern - and oversee Australia's National Fruit Fly Mangement Protocol (ANFFMP) on behalf of the PHC. Key objectives include:
* Ensuring the Australian National Fruit Fly Management Plan (ANFFMP) is technically supported and fit for purpose, including the revision or addition of new modules.
* Determine the technical merit for inclusion of new fruit fly species of economic concern and associated management strategies into the ANFFMP.
* Identify issues to be addressed or complementary activities that need to be implemented to support a nationally coordinated approach to surveillance and management of fruit flies.
AFFTAC membership is comprised of representatives from the Australian Government and state and territory governments. Jurisdictions may nominate two members. Observers include a representative from Plant Health Australia (PHA). AFFTAC is chaired on a rotational basis.
