The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) is Australia's independent statutory authority responsible for regulating agricultural and veterinary (agvet) chemicals. Unless exempt under the Agvet Code, agvet chemical products must be registered by the APVMA before they can be manufactured, imported, supplied, sold or used in Australia.
The APVMA conducts scientific assessments of products to determine their safety, quality and efficacy (effectiveness), helping to protect the health and safety of people and animals, safeguard the environment, and support Australia's international trade.
