Fiscal Group contributes to effective government spending arrangements by: Facilitating the Government's fiscal strategy and the appropriate macroeconomic balance by managing the Commonwealth budget process and advising the Treasury ministers on the overall strategy for the Budget; Advising on government outlays from a broad public interest perspective covering the elements in the wellbeing framework; Advising on the interrelationships with other levels of government and administration of the Commonwealth's financial payments to the States and Territories (the States) including advice on the economic positions of the State and Territory governments, especially the effectiveness of federally funded activities; and Preparing the Intergenerational Report and providing advice on a sustainable population strategy.
