The National Transport Commission (NTC) performs the role of an expert adviser to Australian Government ministers with responsibility for infrastructure and transport through the Infrastructure and Transport Ministers’ Meeting (ITMM). The NTC is accountable to ITMM, a forum for intergovernmental collaboration, decision-making and progressing priorities of national importance.
The NTC leads national land transport reform in support of Australian Governments to improve safety, productivity, environmental outcomes and regulatory efficiency relating to road, rail and intermodal transport. The NTC is governed by the NTC Act 2003 and the Inter-Governmental Agreement for Regulatory and Operational Reform in Road, Rail and Intermodal Transport (IGA).
