The Maralinga Land and Environment Management Committee (MLEMC) comprises of the South Australian Government, Maralinga Tjarutja representing the Traditional Owners, and the Commonwealth (through the Department of Industry, Science and Resources). The MLEMC was established under a Handback Deed, and ensures compliance with the conditions under which the former British nuclear test site at Maralinga, South Australia, was returned to the Traditional Owners. The Commonwealth has obligations in perpetuity to ensure the land remains safe.
