Protected Species and Ecological Communities

We ensure species and ecological communities threatened with extinction, and migratory species, have the necessary protection. We are modernising our conservation planning for threatened species and ecological communities, to ensure fit-for- purpose plans that support recovery and management. We support the Threatened Species Scientific Committee to advise the Minister on these matters. We lead Australia’s engagement with the Convention on Migratory Species, representing Australia’s interests and meeting obligations under various international migratory species agreements.
