The Plant Import Operations Branch contributes towards the maintenance of the favourable plant health status of Australia and, as a result, the maintenance of access to export markets for plants and plant products by facilitating the safe importation of plants and plant material. The branch does this by: • coordinating the implementation of national technical operational plant import policy, consistent with international and national rights and obligations, through development and publication of import • conditions assessing import permit applications and issuing import permits for plants and plant materials • developing standards and processes for verifying compliance with operational policy, procedures, and standards • providing technical advice to staff, clients and stakeholders The branch is committed to continuous review and improvement and adopting best practice, including using risk-return principles and project activities.
