On 15 December 2014, the Government announced in the Ministerial Paper Small Government - Towards a Sustainable Future that the Protection Zone Committees will be ceased and functions will be performed by the ACMA.
The Australian Communication and Media Authority (ACMA) may declare a protection zone in relation to one or more international submarine cables, or one or more submarine cables that are proposed to be installed. The Advisory Committee reviews the Australian Communication and Media Authority's (ACMA) proposals for a Protection Zone submarine cables that are installed or yet to be installed.
