The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) was established as an expert advisory body for the Marine National Facility Steering Committee (MNFSC). The purpose of the Scientific Advisory Committee is to provide advice to the Marine National Facility Steering Committee: "on scientific operations, equipment needs, assessment of proposals and any other research matters as required concerning annual research voyage schedules and proposed research projects to be undertaken on those voyages".
