The Independent Health Advice Panel (IHAP) is appointed by the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs to monitor, assess and report on the physical and mental health of transitory persons who are in regional processing countries and the standard of health services provided to them. The panel will consist of at least eight clinicians. The panel will consist of the person occupying the positions of Chief Medical Officer of the Department of Home Affairs and the Surgeon-General of the Australian Border Force; the person occupying the position of Commonwealth Chief Medical Officer; and not less than 6 other members nominated by professional medical bodies listed in the legislation and regulations.
