The TGA carries out a range of assessment and monitoring activities to ensure therapeutic goods available in Australia are of an acceptable standard with the aim of ensuring that the Australian community has access to therapeutic advances. The TGA is a division of the Department of Health and is responsible for administering the activities prescribed under the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989; Therapeutic Goods Regulations 1990; Therapeutic Goods (Medical Device) Regulations 2002; and Therapeutic Goods (Charges) Act 1989; and, Therapeutic Goods (Charges) Regulations 1990.
