National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) is a statutory scheme that registers introducers of industrial chemicals, assesses industrial chemicals for their risks to human health and the environment and, where relevant, makes recommendations to regulatory authorities regarding risk mitigation. Departmental staff administer the scheme, under the direction of the Director of NICNAS, who is a statutory office-holder.
