On 15 December 2014, the Government announced in the Ministerial Paper Small Government - Towards a Sustainable Future that the repeal the Health Insurance (vocational registration of GPs) Regulation 1989 will eliminate the requirement for the General Practice Recognition Appeal Committee (GPRAC). Department of Human Services will utilise the data from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency for the purposes of Medicare determinations.
The Committee considers appeals from medical practitioners who have been refused re-inclusion on the Vocational Register maintained by Medicare Australia, or who have been removed from the Vocational Register. The Committee operates in conjunction with the General Practice Recognition Eligibility Committee.
