The Branch is responsible for developing strategy and implementing policy relating to information management governance in Defence at the enterprise level. The Branch manages Defence's statutory responsibilities under the Freedom of Information Act, including the Information Publication Scheme. It manages the records retention and access provisions of the Archives Act. The branch also develops policy on, and manages, Defence's administrative policy framework and provides corporate governance for the Defence web estate, including running Defence's internet and intranet homepages. The branch is the single point of contact between the Australian War Memorial’s Official History team and Defence for the six-volume history of Australia’s involvement in East Timor, Afghanistan and Iraq.
