Legislation to establish the Children's eSafety Commissioner (CeSC) commenced on 1 July 2015. The Enhancing Online Safety for Children Amendment Bill 2017 passed Parliament came into effect on 23 June 2017. This lead to a title change with the Children’s eSafety Commissioner maturing to be the eSafety Commissioner. The eSC is a independent statutory office within the Australian Communications and Media Authority. The Commissioner will take a national leadership role in online safety.
