Waste Regulation and Stewardship

The Waste Regulation and Stewardship Branch manage regulatory schemes for import/export of hazardous waste, the waste export ban and the national television and computer recycling scheme (Hazardous Waste (Regulation of Exports and Imports) Act 1989; Recycling and Waste Reduction Act 2020). The branch work with the Australian Taxation Office to administer the Product Stewardship Act (Oil) Act 2000 and engage with industry on stewardship of electronic products, and on implementation. The Waste Regulations and Stewardship Branch administer the National Product Stewardship Investment Fund and engage with the Basel and Waigani Conventions and with the OECD on policy, technical issues, membership and capacity building.
