The branch is responsible for the delivery of national reforms to ensure more effective management of environmental risks from industrial chemicals. This includes driving nationally consistent regulatory approaches through the establishment of the Industrial Chemicals Environmental Management Standard. It also coordinates the government approach to PFAS contamination, including strategy, policy and communication and develops policy advice and national guidance on responding to chemical contamination issues. The branch provides expert advice on managing environmental risks from chemicals and biotechnology to inform government regulators and leads the government engagement with a number of international agreements aimed at managing the risks of harmful chemicals.
