The Atmosphere and Reporting Branch administers programs that deliver domestic measures and strengthen international action to protect the environment by reducing and reporting on pollutants, waste and emissions to improve the environment and health of Australian people. The branch’s programs range from reducing emissions from small petrol engines to implementing the phase out of ozone depleting substances and the phase down of synthetic greenhouse gases. The branch is responsible for leading the government’s engagement on the Montreal Protocol, being the Commonwealth lead for the National Clean Air Agreement and four National Environment Protection Measures relating to air pollutants. The branch also leads the delivery of relevant data and reporting outcomes from the COAG National Waste Policy Action Plan, as well of delivery of national publications such as the 2020 National Waste Report and the 2021 Hazardous Waste in Australia report.
