The Interim Inspector-General of Murray-Darling Basin Water Resources role will: (a) provide independent assurance over Basin Plan implementation and progress of water recovery and delivery of supply and constraint infrastructure projects; (b) provide assurance that MDBA and Basin state and territory governments are fulfilling their compliance responsibilities under the Water Act 2007 (Water Act); (c) exercise powers of investigation; (d) assess performance of all relevant Commonwealth agencies in performing their functions under the Water Act and the Commonwealth’s broader role in the implementation of the Basin Plan (e) receive allegations of non-compliance with the Water Act and the Basin Plan and refer information about non-compliance to appropriate authorities; (f) undertake community engagement on Basin Plan implementation and compliance matters; and (g) report directly to the Minister and the Basin Ministerial Council.
