Agriculture, Water and the Environment
Section 86AJ of the Water Act 2007 requires the Minister of Water Resources to cause two independent reviews to be conducted into whether the funding allocated to the Water for the Environment Special Account (WESA) is sufficient to recover 450 gigalitres by 30 June 2024, and to ease or remove constraints identified by the Murray-Darling Basin Authority on the capacity to deliver environmental water to environmental assets of the Murray-Darling Basin. Section 86AJ of the Water Act also requires the review to be conducted by a panel of at least three persons nominated by the minister, after consulting each Basin state. The report of the first review must be provided to the minister by 30 September 2019.
