The Biosecurity Implementation Branch implements national policy initiatives relating to biosecurity including delivering and optimising the use of a modern, flexible and responsive biosecurity system under the Biosecurity Act 2015; guide research and its adoption, ensure sound governance for intelligence and information systems and provide risk return and resource investment advice to reduce biosecurity risk across the continuum; coordinating legal and legislative support for biosecurity operations; coordinating and overseeing the implementation of the biosecurity surveillance and analysis measures funded through the Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper. The Biosecurity Legislation Implementation Section is responsible for leading the department’s implementation of the Biosecurity Act 2015. The section's primary focus is to coordinate and facilitate implementation of the biosecurity legislation framework in collaboration with policy and operational owners across the department, and clients and stakeholders including industry, other government agencies, international trading partners and parliament. The section also manages the coordination of requests to amend the new biosecurity legislation. Amendments include changes to Acts, regulations, determinations, declarations and other instruments. The White Papers (Biosecurity) Implementation Team coordinates and oversees the implementation of the biosecurity measures outlined in the Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper in collaboration with business and policy owners across the department. Research & Intelligence Guides and shapes the department’s investments in and implementation of biosecurity research, intelligence and information governance and is responsible for the; Risk Return Resource Allocation (RRRA) Model, governance of the Centre of Excellence for Biosecurity Risk Analysis (CEBRA), the department’s Biosecurity Research, Development and Extension and Intelligence Strategies and supporting the National Biosecurity Information Governance Expert Group of National Biosecurity Committee.
