The Sustainable Agriculture Branch works jointly with the Department of the Environment and Energy to design and implement the National Landcare Programme. It also works to manage projects with regional natural resource management (NRM) organisations (previously known as Regional Delivery) and the Reef Programme Water Quality Grants and Partnerships programme (previously known as Reef Rescue). The branch includes four Australian Government Sustainable Agriculture Officers (SAFs) that are regionally based and work with community groups, regional NRM organisations, and industry and state governments, and have a detailed understanding of NRM policies and programmes. The Sustainable Agriculture Branch focuses on: •designing and implementing natural resource management programmes, such as the new National Landcare Programme •implementing policies that promote community engagement in Landcare •supporting and funding the Regional Landcare Facilitators across the 56 regional natural resource management organisations
