The Farmer Assistance Branch is responsible for developing policies and implementing programmes that provide targeted assistance to help primary producers, their families and communities manage adjustment pressures in hard times, including but not limited to drought. This involves delivering the Farm Household Allowance (FHA) and the Rural Financial Counselling Service programmes as well as several of the measures contained in the Australian Government's Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper. FHA is the government's legislative measure under the Intergovernmental Agreement on National Drought Program Reform, to which all Australian governments are party.
