The Farm Business Policy branch develops and implements policy and programmes that provide responsible and appropriate support for farm businesses. We administer the Farm Business Concessional Loans Scheme through state and territory governments and have policy responsibility for the Farm Management Deposits Scheme. We are the department's policy contact for drought, farm debt mediation, and banking and taxation issues as they relate to primary production. We also provide leadership and a coordination point for the department on climate policy, to ensure that climate, climate change and clean energy issues are appropriately considered in our role in supporting the agriculture sector. We lead the Commonwealth's involvement, and coordinate with state and territory counterparts (including through the AGSOC Drought Task Group), in the Intergovernmental Agreement on National Drought Program Reform (IGA). The IGA guides governments on the development and provision of drought and rural assistance programmes.
